All kinds of annoyance of human beings stem from biased mindset and obsessed emotion.

Bear it in mind that all kinds of annoyance of human beings stem from biased mindset and obsessed emotion. I feel painful when compared with wealthier people; I feel upset when compared with people with better look; I feel disappointed when less cared about than others… and so on. All pains come from biased mindset which subsequently gives birth to obsessed emotion, blindness as well asgreed, agony, ignorance, arrogance and envy. When all these negative emotions appear from time to time, the seed of delusion will find its fertile soil and that’s the way howsamsara of six times begins.

In 2008, I went to Shanghai as a member of The Eight Novel Talents of Gansu to attend an activity held in Fudan University. A doctor named Jinli in the activity mentioned that he inadvertently lost his wallet in which there were all his identity cards, many bills and much money. He was totally overwhelmed by disappointment. It was such a coincidence that he opened Shanghai Literature and saw my novel Beauty. After reading the articles, all his bad feelings were gone and he felt extremely refreshed. He said “ I want to pay tribute to Mr. Xuemo as well as his writing Beauty !”

Why would he have such feelings? Because the novel carries a kind of spirit of Buddhism which can bring people serenity. Moreover, it does not need to be associated with any Buddhism concepts. This is an advanced form of spreading Buddhism cultures and thoughts. I think this case could be irradiative to the world.

No matter it is about literature or films, they are all containers to deliver messages more than a story. When you are not limited to some defined ideas or any concepts and capable of using wisdom to watering and nurturing you soul and writings, your happiness and enlightenment will be passed to the readers and audience through novels, movies and any other media. After people have read these literatures and seen the movies, they will begin to figure it out that anything outside your soul will not change your core and it will only be changed if your soul have sublimated. By then they will not be obsessed with many secular affairs any more, which means your spirit and wisdom have been well reserved as it were. This is a kind of spiritual transition like the altruistic spirit passed down from Buddha Sakyamuni. Although he has been away from us for over thousands of years, his altruistic spirit has undoubtedly passed on to us and will go on forever. When a peer group die, the spirit will be carried on by next generation, which constitutes a relative form of eternity and immortality. The real purpose of Buddhism practice is to realize the eternity. Only when you have achieved this, can you be qualified to be the owner of yourself. Without the spirit, your heart will always flow with the changing world like a thermometer which will never be stable.

My novels are one of the containers of such spirit and so do many other forms of containers such as animation, video, seminar and dialogues that are popular and generally accepted by the contemporary world. Obviously, any form of container is fine because it is just a kind of media while the core and master is still the spirit which can be used to nourish people’s soul. You might feel the spirit in a breeze that blows away the sweat on the head of the farmer; or you might hear the twitter of birds that make you feel supreme serenity and joy; or you might listen to a piece of melody that will bring peace and ease to people in a fret; or you might read a nice book that will help you make clear of your confusion.

Let me tell you another story. I have a friend who was struggling with her working environment and fed up with anxieties when we first met. She felt that the innate kindness within herself is always teased by others. But when she occasionally used some ugly tricks, she could often benefit a lot. So she struggled to abandon the good quality of kindness, serenity, blandness and sentiment possessed before in a bid to pursue the secular and utilitarian rewards. It was such a coincidence that she met with me at that time. After reading "A Cult of Vast Desert", she had some talks with me and suddenly realized that what she wished to abandon is the most beautiful thing in the world. One can also make achievements by safeguarding the precious treasure. She came to notice that her former thoughts were just ridiculous and biased. She said to me,” Master Xuemo, if your teaching could be heard by the female doctor who jumped off the building in Fudan University, she would not have committed suicide. It is such a pity that she strived to enter Fudan University and was admitted to doctor degree while ended up with suicide. Why your ideology has not been spread further in the world? I’m sure that if the female doctor had read your book before suicide, she would forsake it anyway.” She continued that if those people who are tortured by pains and anxieties could read these books, they will regain peace and unload those anxieties. Afterwards, she plotted a conversation with me and published a book of it. The main reason why I offered to attend the conversation is that I want to provide the world with a straightforward mind impact that could bring happiness to some people fed up with pains. The contents of the conversation have no mention of Buddhism, but carry the spirit of Buddhism.

From this point of view, the future Buddhism preachers may survive in two forms: One is the same status in its tradition to help those who have confidence in the name and appearance of Buddhism; Another is like a form of culture which could nourish those who detach from name, appearance, concepts or dogmas. Both forms have their unique merits. The latter may win a bigger stage and a bigger world. People who carry on the spirit in form of culture could also become master of culture and will pass down the straightforward mind impact by virtue of culture through a significant length of time.

What else forms could it be? It could either be a form tailored to elegant white collars that could pass the wisdom to many people in a mild way, or it could be in a form of dance, etc. Anyway, the forms are unlimited in varieties. Any form that is needed by human beings are eligible for carrying the spirit on the pretext that your wisdom must become a refreshing current that can be poured into different cups in its element to quench people’s thirst in accordance with their taste.

What if you are not able to instill refreshing energy into your wisdom? Then it is not real wisdom but travesty like a copycat. Although the simple mimic and repetitious behavior has its meaning to some extent, it will be easily washed away as time goes by as it lacks of something like spirit. Those who are just camouflaged like a Buddhist while lacking of Buddhism spirit will be undoubtedly weeded out by history. This is a problem that everyone must face.

Therefore, extinction and prosperity result not only from external environment but also internal factors. Everything in the world must follow the truth,no matter it is about development of Buddhism culture or fulfillment of personal destiny. If we are always satisfied with status quo without motivation to strive with the time or we deliberately set up too many rules to encage our young generations to stymie them from becoming giants in the future and make them become dwarf, they would be aborted by the time for sure. This is called elimination. When you succeed in rescuing the dwarf child who was supposed to grow up into a giant and wish to remake it into a giant as a remedy, you must instill a new kind of nutrition. We cannot revive a dead dwarf, so we can only give birth to a new child. The new baby carries the gene and soul of last generation, but it owns a new body which is supposed to invent new forms, philosophy, etiquette and even new experience to accommodate to the current world. At this moment, many historical relics must be evolved and manifested in new terms and forms to make it more apt for contemporary people’s needs and demands

Make sure to be aware that what we really need is not any appearance in disguise but the straightforward mind impact it holds. We will continue to carry it on in a bid to let it nourish people’s soul consistently and ignite happiness light to dispel pains and eliminate biased mindset. Bear it in mind that all kinds of annoyance of human beings stem from biased mindset and obsessed emotion. I feel painful when compared with wealthier people; I feel upset when compared with people with better look; I feel disappointed when less cared about than others ...and so on. All pains come from biased mindset which subsequently gives birth to obsessed emotion, blindness as well as greed, agony, ignorance, arrogance and envy. When all these negative emotions appear from time to time, the seed of delusion will find its fertile soil and that’s the way howsamsara of six times begins.
