Bright self-awaken from foolishness and dullness(1)

“Bright self-awakening from foolishness and dullness” is the fifth part of the Root Six Dharma of Niguma of the Perfection Stage of the “Five Golden Dharma of Niguma”, and is the bright meditation dharma.

“Bright self-awakening from foolishness and dullness” is also called “bright achieving dharma”. Liu Liqian states in The Kagyu Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism

“The essence of brightness is to induce bright empty coliving wisdom. Brightness is the innate nature of one’s own heart, i.e. the bright empty coliving wisdom, which is not made by other reasons or conditions, and Buddha and living beings both have it. The superior function of brightness is as the origin which shows all statuses of samsara and nirvana in the three present worlds, and is the root for the Yuan arising of the dharma kingdom and the universe. To see one’s nature, enlighten the heart, and feel emptiness is the fundamental. Seeing brightness by meditating path progresses from body to function, having both body and function qualifies as the perfected enlightenment of the heart. Therefore, meditating brightness is very important. Brightness includes innate brightness, brightness in meditation, brightness in sleep, and death being brightness etc. Innate brightness is the cause and the mother brightness, brightness in meditation is the child. The meeting of the mother and child brightness, which is the two lights merging into one, becomes the brightness of the Buddha fruit. When ultimate enlightenment of real phenomena is attained, the reward and manifested bodies can be achieved.”
