Integrating the great achievements of father tantra and mother tantra1

In the Five Golden Dharma of Niguma, Guhyasamaja and Yamantaka belong to father tantra, and Mahamaya, Hevajra and Chakrasambhava belong to mother tantra. In Tibetan Buddhism, there are many arguments about the concepts of the father tantra section and mother tantra section. Some believe that father tantra has slightly more emphasis on skilfulness and mother tantra has slightly more emphasis on wisdom. The Indian scholar Black Practitioner believed any dharma starting from the Creation Stage and indirectly teaching the Perfection Stage belonged to father tantra while any dharma directly teaching the Perfection Stage and indirectly teaching the Completion Stage belonged to mother tantra. Also, some believe that skilful father tantra focuses on mercy, accentuating the Creation Stage while wise mother tantra focuses on emptiness, accentuating the Perfection Stage. Later on, some raised the new opinion that father tantra uses illusory body achievement as the main meditation method while mother tantra uses ‘bright big happy wisdom’ achievement as the main meditation method. There are many debates on the above sayings.

The Five Golden Dharma of Niguma unites all the advantages of father tantra and mother tantra. According to Jianggong Guru, the individual five great Vajra dharma are each different paths leading to the same result. But each has its own advantage. For example, Guhyasamaja emphasises the illusory body or body achievement, Mahamaya emphasises language achievement and the bright Great Seal, Hevajra emphasises mystic heat and mind achievements, Chakrasambhava emphasises merit achievement and skilful empty happy unlimited wisdom, and Yamantaka’s strength lies in career achievement. The Five Golden Dharma of Niguma integrates all the characteristic strengths of the Five Great Vajra into one. Meditating the Five Golden Dharma of Niguma is equal to meditating all teachings of the Five Great Vajra systems, and also equal to having meditated all of the most outstanding tantra. This is why Khyongpo Naljor set his heart on the Five Golden Dharma of Niguma despite having over 100 gurus and receiving countless great dharma.
