The other day, the translation group of Xuemo Meditation Center was established. Our QQ group number is 248-917-121. We sincerely hope that people with a certain grounding in foreign languages can join us.

 

The translation group is composed of foreign language professionals and cultural volunteers. Our major work is translating Xuemo’s work as well as related documents of traditional culture and Mahamudra. Our purpose is to build a platform for cultural communication and exchange with other nations. We know that, in the course of history, the moral cultures of nations around the world are all indispensable nutrients to the human soul. Nowadays, in the era of globalization, each culture is having its say; therefore, mutual exchange appears to be of utmost importance. More often than not, dialogue in its true sense is cultural exchange and collision of thoughts, which begets wisdom.

 

We set up the translation group of Xuemo Meditation Center in the hope of building a bridge of friendship for the sake of exchange and dialogue between cultures at home and abroad. On the one hand, we will show the world the “treasures of wisdom” of the unique culture of western China, and promote the best aspects of Chinese culture; on the other hand, we would love to discuss topics of common interest and problems facing all mankind with friends around the world in the spirit of mutual communication and mutual assistance, and work together to realize instant solicitude in the cultural sense and the ultimate transcendence of the soul.

 

Therefore, we sincerely hope that more like-minded people (not limited to English majors) join us and play an active part. Let’s work together to bring real coolness, peace, and happiness to the world.

 

1. The Characters of the Group:

 

All the members join the translation group of their own will and they are dedicated volunteers with a certain grounding in English or other foreign languages.

 

2. Work Content:

 

At the initial stage, the members are responsible for the translation of miscellaneous lecture notes and articles on Mahamudra. When their translation skills are improved and their understanding deepened, the job will involve formal translation of books on Mahamudra.

 

3. Work Process:

 

3.1. The leader of the translation group is responsible for assigning tasks.

 

3.2. According to the personal circumstances of each volunteer, the group is divided into two subgroups of A and B (at present, the volunteers can choose freely which subgroup they want to be in, or it can be allocated by the leader). After a period of review, we will elect the leader of each subgroup for better coordination.

 

Subgroup A: first draft translation group, responsible for first draft translation (at least 1-2 articles a week).

 

Subgroup B: professional correction group, responsible for the correction of first drafts and for proofreading (at least 1-2 articles per week).

 

3.3. Subgroup A members submit their translations to the leader of the translation group for preliminary examination and collation.

 

3.4. Then, the drafts are sent to Subgroup B members for correction and proofreading.

 

3.5. Subgroup B members submit the corrected drafts to the leader of the translation group for further examination and collation.

 

3.6. The leader of the translation group sends the finalized translations to the Xuemo Culture website to be posted on the Internet.

 

4. Working Time:

 

4.1. In order to ensure the timely posting of translated articles on the official website, the leader of the translation group will assign tasks according to each member’s individual conditions. Translators should finish their work and send it back (by QQ or email) within a week. In the translating process, if the members run into any problems (e.g. specialized terms), they should contact the leader of the translation group in time.

 

4.2. The members should arrange their time properly, so that they can finish their translation work on time and that it does not affect their normal work, rest, and life. If any member has a matter of urgency to deal with, she or he should contact the leader of the translation group in time, so that the latter can rearrange assignments.

 

5. Work Requirements:

 

5.1. The members should not post translated articles on the Internet (blogs, forums, QQ groups, QQ spaces, etc.) without permission. The articles, after reviewing and proofreading, are to be post on the Xuemo Culture website by persons in charge.

 

5.2. We are now at the initial stage of systematic translation. We are learning and exploring in this process and, in the future, we will try to meet professional standards. So, at present, we need to be rigorous and meticulous and work slowly but surely.

 

6. Training and Learning

 

6.1. At the initial stage, the quality of the translations is subject to the members’ current level of English proficiency. There is room for improvement. So, each volunteer should never stop learning in the process of translation. In their spare time, they are encouraged to improve their language proficiency and professional knowledge by reading as many as possible books on Buddhism, religion, literature, culture, and philosophy in those languages.

 

6.2. When the time is ripe, we will invite professionals and English teachers to provide collective training for volunteers.

 

6.3. At irregular intervals, we will engage in closed professional learning in the live broadcasting studio of “Great Compassion in the Mind.”

“雪漠禅坛”文化志愿者翻译小组成立

 

近日，“雪漠禅坛”翻译小组成立，其QQ群号：248917121，欢迎有外语基础者加入该群。

 

“雪漠禅坛”翻译小组均有外文专业的相关人士及文化志愿者组成，以翻译雪漠作品及相关优秀传统文化、大手印文化资料为主，以此搭建一座与世界各国文化沟通和交流的平台。世界各民族的善文化，在历史文明的进程中，都是人类灵魂中不可缺少的滋养，但在如今全球化时代，各种文化都发出各自的声音，相互之间的交流尤显重要，很多时候，真正意义上的对话是文化上的交流和思想的智慧碰撞。

 

“雪漠禅坛”翻译小组的成立，就是想以一颗真诚的心，尝试着为海内外各国文化的交流和对话搭起友谊之“桥”，一方面向世界展示西部文化独有的“智慧宝藏”，将中国最为优秀的文化精髓传播出去；另一方面，在与世界各界同仁的沟通和互助下，一起探讨整个人类面临的共同话题，实现文化意义上的当下关怀和灵魂层面上的终极超越。

 

真诚希望更多志同道合的有识之士（不限英语专业）积极参与，让我们一起努力，给世界带来真正的清凉、和平和幸福。

 

一、工作性质：

 

“雪漠禅坛”翻译小组内的成员均为自愿加入，具备一定英语或其他外语专业基础，具有奉献精神的文化志愿者。

 

二、工作内容：

 

初期，主要负责大手印文化的各类讲座文章的翻译，待技能娴熟，领悟提升之后，工作内容将涉及大手印文化书籍作品的正式翻译。

 

三、工作流程：

 

1、由“雪漠禅坛”翻译小组负责人统一安排分配任务。

 

2、目前，根据“雪漠禅坛”小组内志愿者的实际情况，分为A\B两组  （目前可自行提出进入哪一组，也可由负责人根据情况分配），经一段时间考核之后，均推选出各组组长，进一步协调相关工作。

 

★A组为初稿翻译组，主要负责文章的初稿翻译，每周至少1—2篇；

 

★B组为专业修正组，主要负责初稿文章的修改、校对工作，每周至少1—2篇。

 

3、A组翻译好的初稿，交由“雪漠禅坛”翻译小组负责人初审、整理；

 

4、初稿整理后交由B组进行修改、校对；

 

5、B组完成初稿修正后，交由“雪漠禅坛”翻译小组负责人二次审阅、整理；

 

6、全部修定稿后的文章将统一由“雪漠禅坛”翻译小组负责人交予“雪漠文化网”对外正式发表。

 

四、工作时间：

 

1、为保证译文能够及时在官网上刊登、发表，“雪漠禅坛”翻译小组负责人会根据成员个人情况安排工作量，自发稿时起，收稿人需在一周内将翻译好的文章交与负责人（qq、邮箱均可），期间遇到任何问题（包括遇到难翻译的专业名词）应及时与负责人联系。

 

2、成员应自主安排各自翻译时间，在保证不影响个人正常工作、生活、休息的前提下，按期准时完成。如中途有事或遇其他特殊情况，请及时与负责人沟通，负责人将根据实际情况调整工作任务及时间。

 

五、工作要求：

 

1、所有成员翻译的文章未经允许请勿随意在公共网络上公布（如博客、论坛、QQ群、QQ空间等），经审阅、校对后，将统一发表在雪漠文化网上，再供读者阅览、转载、传播。

 

2、目前刚开始系统性的翻译，在学习探索中，将会按专业路线发展，所以需要严谨、稳妥、细致。

 

六、学习培训：

 

1、鉴于初期的翻译工作都是以大家目前的英语水平为准，需要一个磨合成熟期，所以每位志愿者都要在翻译过程中不断地自主学习，其中包括个人在工作、生活之余多利用课余时间加强外文学习，努力提高专业水平，多读一些专业性的外文佛教、宗教、文学、文化、哲学类的书籍等；

 

2、如条件成熟，我们可以邀请专业人士及外语教师进行集体培训学习等；

 

3、不定期将在“大善铸心”直播间进行封闭式专业学习等；
