Recently, t The World Is a Reflection of the Mind and
the collection Selected Stories by Xuemo
which were written by the famous writer Xue Mo were published in English by
Encyclopedia of China Publishing House. This is the first time that XueMo’s
works were translated into English.As the English publishing of these two
works, it is just like building a “soul bridge” which could help the oversea
readers to learn and understand “Chinese stories” in “The Belt and Road
Initiative” as well as Chinese traditional culture and Chinese Mind Philosophy
.Therefore, it could further promote communication between China and foreign
countries.
The World Is a Reflection of the Mind was translated by J. C. Cleary, a renowned
American translator and sinologist who was Graduated from Harvard University
with two doctorates of East Asian Languages & Civilization and Laws, he
once has translated some works , such as
The Art of War and The Flower Adornment Sutra. The Selected Stories by Xuemo was
translated by Nicky Harman, a renowned British sinologist and translator.
The book
includes short stories Old Man Xinjiang,
Beauty, The Crunching of Broad Beans at Dead of Night and The Women, the Camels and the Dholes, featured by terseness, forcefulness and
excitement, all of which can be seen as the four representative short stories
of Xue Mo's works. Among them, Old Man
Xinjiang was published in full in the British The Guardian on April 11, 2012 and is considered to be one of the
five best short stories in contemporary China.
